Current Capital Projects

St Michael CHS, Kemptville

A New 22 classroom, two storey addition funded by the Ministry of Education’s Energy Efficient Schools program.  Upon completion of the new addition, 21 existing portable classrooms will be removed.  Tentatively this project is slated for completion prior to the September 2011 school year.

CDSBEO staff have held committee meetings and design is now finalized including: layout, room types and finishes, structure and mechanical and electrical components.  Consultants are 85% complete tender drawings and should be able to make the permit application in April 2010.  The site plan application was made and is under review.  Site survey and geotechnical investigations are complete.  Ministry budget approval is required prior to tender.  The preliminary class C estimate indicates the project is within budget.  Phased construction will start after July 2010.

Energy Management Initiatives, all schools

In April 2009, the Ministry of Education announced energy efficient schools funding with the goal of reducing energy use and creating environmentally friendly learning spaces.

In October 2009, the CDSBEO began conducting detailed energy audits at each facility.  Following assessment of the audits, tangible physical upgrades will take place that will reduce energy consumption across the board.  Typical upgrades may include efficient lighting, heating and cooling equipment, controls, updated fixtures, building envelope improvements and the implementation of best practice energy usage.

Trane Canada conducted energy audits at all CDSBEO facilities.  The audits are now finalized and under review by Plant and Maintenance.  Staff will be meeting with Trane on March 30 for a summary and formal handover of all audits.

Upgrade suggestions must now be prioritized and approved for implementation.  Physical upgrades could start as early as May 2010.

CDSBEO also applied to the Ministry of Education for three solar photovoltaic renewable energy projects.  If successful the projects could start in the summer of 2010 and would allow the CDSBEO to generate electricity to sell back to the utility providers.
