Kemptville, On
–
On October 5, the CDSBEO will
join more than 100 countries around the world in marking The
United Nations’ World Teachers’ Day.
CDSBEO Director of Education Ann Perron
said that this year’s World Teachers’ Day theme, Teachers
Make a Difference compliments the Catholic District School
Board’s theme We are People of God… Transforming the World!
In announcing this year’s World Teachers’ Day theme, the
Canadian Teachers’ Federation stated that the world we leave
to our children depends in large measure on the children we
leave to our world.
Director Perron
said, “The CDSBEO believes our Catholic
educators strive to bring hope to the lives of our students.
We are enlivened by the spirit of God as we work together to
Transform the World. Our teachers make every effort to
ensure that our students strive to make their communities and
our world a better place for all.”
Director Perron
added that the difference our teachers make is highlighted in
the 6-year upward trend seen in the results of the Education
Quality and Accountability Office (EQAO) assessments. “Our
Catholic educators work hard every day to make a difference in
the lives of our students. This is apparent in the growing
number of students who are meeting or exceeding the
requirements for the EQAO assessments. The number of
successful students has risen dramatically and has
consistently been ahead of the provincial average since the
test was first administered. Without the devotion of our
teachers these results would not be possible.”
CDSBEO Chair Ronald Eamer
also praised the efforts of the Board’s teachers. “All of the
work that is done behind the scenes in such areas as
curriculum planning can only be successful if the teacher
delivering the material is confident and capable of doing so.
I am so pleased to say that our teachers are second-to-none in
nurturing our students’ education and are one of the primary
reasons for our students’ success.”
The United Nations officially
recognized October 5 as World Teacher’s day in 1994 to
coincide with the anniversary of the 1966 adoption of the
“Recommendations Concerning the Status of Teachers.” At that
time, governments formally acknowledged the need and
importance for every society to have competent and qualified
teachers.
The Catholic District School
Board of Eastern Ontario operates 40 elementary and 10
secondary schools across 8 counties. The CDSBEO offers
excellence in Catholic education through provincial-leading
programs to approximately 15,000 students. |
