What is the CDSBEO "Student Senate"?
A Student Senate is made up of student representatives from each of the ten high schools within the Catholic District School Board of Eastern Ontario.  These student representatives assist the Student Trustee in determining student issues, gathering student opinion and help to develop communications and relations with all students within the board.  The Student Senate provides a means for student council leaders and senators to gain leadership skills, experience and training. The group works together to promote and enhance the distinctiveness of all Catholic District School Board of Eastern Ontario students while remaining an entity that upholds the concepts and values of the Catholic Church.

Who are the people that make up the Student Senate?
The Student Senate consists of three secondary school student representatives (grade 9 and higher) from each secondary school in the board. Two members can be members of a student council (elected by student council within each high school) and the other should be an alternating non-student council member. The Student Senate consists of one chair who will serve as Student Trustee on the Catholic District School Board of Eastern Ontario, one vice-chair who will be elected by members of the Student Senate, and one secretary to be elected by members of the Student Senate. This group of members is referred to as the “Student Senate Cabinet.”

What makes you eligible to become a member of the Student Senate?
Members of the Student Senate should be secondary students (grade 9 and higher) currently enrolled in Catholic secondary schools within the Catholic District School board of Eastern Ontario.

Where and how often do Student Senate meetings take place?
The student Senate meets a various high schools through the school board approximately six times per year.
