Social Justice Exposure

They're back and they want you to experience a bit of their trip through the pictures.

The Team hosted a Chili cook-off to raise money for the trip. It was a HUGE success!

Thank you to Faith Leroux for providing these pictures.

July's Car wash which raised $200 and the chili co-off held on parent-teacher interview night.

October

Our team is off to a great start in our fundraising. We would like to thank everyone who purchased some of our delicious home-baked goodies, fair-trade organic coffee, and hot chocolate at the Meet the Teacher Event. Congratulations to Mr.Deiderich and Mrs.Moffat who each won a gourmet cake in our cake draw. These delectable cakes were made fresh by Cakes on St. Phillipe in Alfred. You can look forward to a similar event during parent-teacher interviews.

Our current push is the SPC cards (http://www.spccard.ca/about.aspx ). The cards are selling for the low price of $8.50; these cards will give the cardholder discounts (5% - 20%) at specialized stores including Aldo, Bluenotes, Foot Locker, Roots, Second Cup, Sport Check, Suzy Cher, the Bay, Zellers and dozens more! They are on sale Thursday and Fridays during lunch from the Mexico team. They are going quickly, so get yours while they are in stock! Stay tuned for our MacMillan foods fundraiser which will be happening in November and arriving in early December, just in time for Christmas and holiday gatherings. Yum! Please contact Ms. Shane if you are interested or would like additional information on any of our fundraisers and events.

In September we had our first meeting at the board where we finally met the forty other students (and nine supervisors) that will be going with us to Cuernavaca this March. We shared our hopes and fears for the upcoming trip, as well as spiritual reflection. We are eagerly looking forward to our mission work and to our Third World experiences and education that awaits us.

Mexico Retreat

A huge thank you goes out to Mr. Gordie VanPutten, our school chaplaincy leader. Mr. Van Putten took our team on a retreat Thursday October 9th for the entire day at Our Lady of Divine Love Parish in Pendleton. In addition to team bonding, Mr. VanPutten helped us discover our spiritual gifts, taught us about the importance of social justice and charity, and helped us understand the consequences of a consumerist society (check out this 20 minute video: "The Story of Stuff" at http://www.storyofstuff.com ) . The day ended with a liturgy just for us! A special thanks to Deacon Rick who helped us celebrate and also taught us about globalization. The day ended all too soon. We left with our minds filled with knowledge of social justice, our souls filled with the hope of making a difference, our hearts filled with the love of Jesus Christ, and our tummies full from our Mexican pot-luck lunch! Yum!

Thank You!

Thank you to everyone who continues to support our fundraising efforts. Please keep us and the other fifty staff and students from the Catholic District School Board of Eastern Ontario who are participating and organizing this social justice trip to Cuernavaca Mexico in March of 2009.
