So far so good! We haven't lost anyone and everyone is healthy,
happy and well fed. The bus ride was long but enjoyable with bus #1 being the
happy, smart bus (ask about the cats riddle) and bus #2 being the crazy party
bus.
After dropping off our luggage and changing in New Jersey, we
traveled through the Lincoln Tunnel to New York settled in for dinner at
Applebee's. After we did a walking tour of Time's Square, we saw West Side Story
- AMAZING!
Day 2:
We headed into New York this morning for a bus tour of the
city and a walk across the Brooklyn bridge. We saw many different sections
of New York and learned a lot of interesting history. We also stopped at an
amazing cathedral - we were all blown away by the majestic architecture and
amazing details. The tour was so good that we didn't even stop for lunch...
which meant that there were some VERY hungry teenagers stuffing themselves
at 3pm!
After our tour we visited Mme Tussaud's Wax Museum for about
a million photo opportunities.
Dinner tonight was at Dallas BBQ... unfortunately many of
our students (and chaperones) couldn't fully enjoy the fabulous meal because
they were still full of "lunch"!
Day 3:
CHINA TOWN! China Town was our first stop - there was SO
much to look at and so many places to visit that many of our students didn't
even have time for lunch! After that we went to the Museum of Natural
History and then walked through Central Park on our way to F.A.O Schwarz -
where even the teachers had some fun with the toys.
The weather was incredibly beautiful - sunny and hot - even
though the forecast was for cooler temperatures and rainy periods.
Dinner at BB King's Bar
& Grill was delicious and we took the time to celebrate with the birthday
boys and girls on the trip.
We went to see Billy Elliot which was an INCREDIBLE show!
The music, choreography and production aspects of the show blew us all away.
Day 4
... was the busiest and most exhausting
of all! We took the Staten Island Ferry across the water to view the statue
of liberty and then jumped back on the bus to be taken downtown. We passed
the United Nations building as well as Wall Street before arriving for our
tour of Radio City Music Hall. When we were dropped off, we discovered (much
to the delight of our shopaholics) a huge street market where we did some
shopping and had lunch.
We went to the "Top of
the Rock" to view all of New York from Rockefeller Centre. Then we walked
through Grand Central Station on our way to a well-deserved rest at Bryant
Park where the students all fell down in exhaustion.
After a
wonderful dinner at Bubba Gump's we walked to Macy's and then got to see the
night-scape of New York from the Empire State Building.
Students loaded the buses at 12:30am to begin the long drive home and slept
fairly well despite the hysterical chaperones, cold air and cramped
quarters.
