ECOKIDS Club

This year we have started an ECOKIDS Club at Mother Teresa. The members of the club are working hard trying to make Mother Teresa a more eco-friendly place.
We started the year talking about energy conservation with our "Switch It Off" campaign. Now we are focusing on waste reduction. To begin, we are talking about waste free lunches. Next Thurssday Oct. 18th will be our first "waste free lunch day". We will be doing this once a month from now on. For more information on waste free lunches go to www.wastefreelunches.org

The Sunshine Club:

The Sunshine Club, which started February 2006, is a group of dedicated and caring students who want to help others have some sunshine in their day. These students meet weekly with Ms. Kennedy, and they create banners, posters, and inspirational prayers to decorate our school. They read us weekly inspirational messages and challenge each of us to make a difference for someone else. Last February, they sold “I REALIZE” bracelets and keychains to raise money for CHEO. The endeavor was a success and very quickly sold out. When everyone works together, many great things can happen. Keep spreading your sunshine students!

The MTCS Choirs:

In addition to embellishing our worship time, the choirs perform for parents at our Christmas Concerts and present a Spring play. As well, the primary and junior choirs sing for seniors at the Embrun and Osgoode Care Centres. The angelic voices create many smiles on the faces of the seniors and a wonderful time is always had by all.

Japanese Club:

The Japanese Language club is open to all grade 6 students. This club meets every Thursday for the lunch hour in Mrs. Toye's classroom. The weekly club meetings are loosely divided into a 10 minute cultural discussion around a specific point, followed by 20 minutes of Japanese language instruction. The students learn basic expressions and phrases that area part of everyday conversation. The final 10 minutes of the lesson is usually spent on practicing the proper way to write Japanese numbers and simple words.

Chess Club:

The MTCS Chess Club continues to be a weekly extracurricular activity for students in grades 3 to 6. The motivated members have been developing their high-order thinking skills and game moves, over the past few months. With the support of the grade six coaches, the students have gained valuable game strategies and tips in order to advance their levels of expertise. Ms. Carroll and Ms. Long want to thank all of our Chess Club participants and the coaches for their ongoing interest and commitment to the club.
