St. Joseph Catholic School Good Standing Policy
This year we will be following a codified policy of Good Standing in the junior and intermediate divisions. Students are in good standing when they meet their responsibilities
· In the classroom (both behaviour and academic) · With their homework · On the school yard · On the bus
Students who are experiencing difficulty with meeting their classroom and schoolyard behaviour responsibilities and/or academic and homework responsibilities will be considered not in Good Standing. When not in Good Standing, students will not be allowed the privilege of participating in extracurricular activities (e.g., teams, clubs, sports days, dances) for a period of time.
Losing Good Standing will follow these steps:
1. Students will be informed by their classroom teacher that they are not in Good Standing due to behaviour, class or homework issues. Parents will also be informed that their child is not in Good Standing. This warning will be at the teacher’s discretion based on their classroom rules and the Code of Conduct as laid out on page nine of the student agenda. 2. Step 1 is a warning and students will be informed by their teacher what must be done to return to Good Standing. Students will be given 3 weeks to resolve the issue, and return to Good Standing. 3. If a second issue arises or if student has not resolved the previous issue, Parents/Guardians will be contacted to inform them that their child is not in Good Standing and that their extra-curricular privileges have been suspended. 4. Students must return to Good Standing status to have their privileges returned. After a period of 3 weeks without incident students will have their Good Standing status returned. 5. Gross misbehaviour or a suspension will automatically result in a loss of Good Standing.
