Iona Academy Participates in “The School Malaise Trap Program”

The Grade 7 classes at Iona Academy have been selected to participate in “The School Malaise Trap Program” being conducted by the University of Guelph. The students must select a location and set up a tent-like device which will collect a variety of insects during a two week period, from April 20th to May 1st. All collected insects will be sent to the Biodiversity Institute of Ontario for bar-coding and identification. This unique experience will provide an exciting opportunity for the students to explore the diversity present in the school yard.

The photos show the students setting up the Malaise trap and preparing the site with safety ribbon, research sign, and other necessities.
