St. Edward Catholic School Wins Rideau Lakes Fire Safety Contest

St. Edward Catholic School in Westport has won the Rideau Lakes Fire Safety Contest this year, beating out all other schools in Rideau Lakes Township. The win was the result of much hard work on behalf of staff and students. Students took part in the Fire Safety Poster Contest and all staff ensured that fire prevention and safety continues to be a high priority at the school. Each year during National Fire Prevention Week the Fire Department conducts random fire drills to observe how students and staff exit the building, as well as check other details, such as all doors being closed. St. Edward Catholic School had no deficiencies this year due to everyone’s hard work.

The contest prize included a visit from professional magician Larry Hitch, of Philip & Henry. The students and staff were in awe during the amazing performance. Fire Chief, Jay DeBernardi, also presented the school with a plaque to hang as a reminder of this important accomplishment.
