Official Blessing of New Addition at St. Mother Theresa Catholic School

On May 5, St. Mother Teresa Catholic School marked an important milestone with the official blessing of its new addition. Staff, project partners, and community members gathered to celebrate this meaningful moment for the school.
The ceremony began with a land acknowledgment, followed by welcoming remarks from Principal Erin Merkley. A liturgy was led by Archbishop Marcel Damphousse of the Archdiocese of Ottawa-Cornwall.

Archbishop Damphousse, joined by Father John Whyte, began the blessing of the new addition at the commemorative plaque before continuing through each new classroom, where they were welcomed by teachers and students.

Reflections and words of appreciation were shared by Trustee Sue Wilson, Board Chair Chris Cummings, MPP Stéphane Sarrazin (Glengarry–Prescott–Russell), Mayor Mike Tarnowski (Township of Russell), Director of Education Shelley Montgomery, and Catholic School Council Chair Catherine Kozera. Speakers recognized the collaboration and commitment behind the project, and the positive impact the new spaces will have for students.

The ceremony concluded with a song performed by the school choir alongside students, followed by closing remarks from Principal Merkley, who thanked everyone who contributed to the project and the celebration. The new addition will support student learning and well-being for years to come.
