Rob McDonald Shares Métis Culture and History with Iona Academy Students

This week, Rob McDonald visited Iona Academy to share two meaningful presentations with students.

Throughout September and October, Rob is presenting his Residential School presentation to Grade 7/8 students across CDSBEO, providing students with an opportunity to learn about the Residential School system through his personal experiences and Métis perspective.

Grade 7/8 students at Iona Academy heard Rob speak about his personal journey and experiences connected to the Residential School system, providing important Métis context and perspective. His presentation gave students an opportunity to listen, reflect, ask questions, and deepen their understanding of the lasting impacts of Residential Schools on Indigenous individuals, families, and communities.

Rob also spent time with Grade 5/6 students, sharing and celebrating Métis culture through its artistry, music, traditions, and history. Students had the opportunity to learn more about the richness of Métis identity and the important contributions of Métis people.

CDSBEO is grateful to Rob for sharing his knowledge, experiences, and culture with students and for helping create meaningful opportunities for learning, reflection, and respectful dialogue.
