Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Do I need to speak French to help my child in French Immersion?
A: No. Our programs are designed for families where French is not the primary language spoken at home. In the early years, we focus on school-based listening and speaking to build a solid foundation.
Q: Why does structured reading and writing start in Grade 3?
A: Research and our Neurolinguistic Approach show that oral fluency is a prerequisite for literacy. By waiting until Grade 3, we allow students to internalize the sounds of French first, which makes transitioning to reading much more successful and less overwhelming.
Q: Can my child with special education needs participate?
A: Absolutely. We believe FSL is for every student. We use Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and assistive technologies (like text-to-speech) to ensure French is accessible and enriching for all. Learning French can actually enhance literacy skills in a student’s first language.
Q: What is the DELF, and will my child take it?
A: The DELF is an internationally recognized diploma that certifies French proficiency. Grade 12 students are invited to take this exam to earn a credential that is highly valued by universities and employers, particularly for government positions.
