A Message from the Ministry of Education: Revisions to Grades 7, 8, and 10 History Curriculum
The Minister of Education has released previously announced updates to the Grades 7, 8, and 10 History curriculum, to be implemented in the 2026-2027 school year. The revised curriculum is now available on the Curriculum and Resources website for parents, educators, and students. The current curriculum remains in effect for the remainder of this school year.
The updates strengthen learning on the significant contributions of Black individuals and communities to Canada’s development, and the barriers they faced. Grade 10 History will also include new learning on extreme political and social ideologies, the Holocaust and rising antisemitism, and the Holodomor famine in Ukraine.
Beginning in 2026-2027, The Ontario Curriculum: Social Studies, Grades 1 to 6: History and Geography, Grades 7 and 8, 2026 and Canadian History since World War 1 (CHC2D/CHC2P), 2026 will replace the current curricula.
Parent overviews are available for Grades 7 and 8 and Grade 10.
