At the October 20 Board Meeting, the Catholic District School Board of Eastern Ontario bid a heartfelt farewell to Board Chair Chris Cummings, who is concluding his term after four years of dedicated service.

Director of Education Shelley Montgomery recognized Chair Chris Cummings for guiding the Board through many significant and complex matters with calm, balance and professionalism. She also thanked him for the kindness, integrity and support he demonstrated throughout their work together, particularly as she transitioned into her role as Director.

Chair Chris Cummings shared his farewell message through his wife, Linda Cummings, reflecting on the warm welcome he received as a new Trustee and the lasting impact of his visits to CDSBEO schools. He spoke of witnessing countless quiet acts of compassion by staff and how these moments deepened his understanding of Catholic education and leadership as service.

“Four years ago, I walked through the door wondering whether I belonged. You made me feel that I did,” he shared. “I came here wondering whether I could make a difference. I’m leaving hoping that I did. But I know with certainty that you made a difference in me.”

The CDSBEO community extends its sincere appreciation to Chair Chris Cummings for his leadership, commitment and service to Catholic education. We wish him and his family every blessing as he begins his next chapter.
