CDSBEO Indigenous Education Team Celebrates Partnership with Taylor Bird-Isaac

The CDSBEO Indigenous Education Team is proud to recognize the contributions of Taylor Bird-Isaac, a member of Swampy Cree Nation in Peawanuck, CDSBEO graduate, and valued community partner.

Taylor has visited several CDSBEO schools, sharing her experiences and perspectives on her culture and life in her community. Through her visits, students and staff have learned about the unique realities of a fly-in community, where the local school offers Kindergarten to Grade 8. To pursue high school, students must make the decision to relocate to Timmins, a four-hour flight from home, to continue their education.

She also spoke about the importance of traditional hunting within her community, both as a cultural practice and a necessity, given the high cost of transporting food by air. With younger students, Taylor introduced the Seven Sacred Teachings and shared that Love is especially meaningful to her.

We thank Taylor for sharing her knowledge and experiences with CDSBEO students and staff.
