CDSBEO Teachers Turning Ideas into Books

Two CDSBEO Kindergarten educators are being recognized for their creative and thoughtful approach to early learning. Crystal Galvao and Nathalie Creamer, Kindergarten teachers at St. Mother Teresa Catholic School, were recently featured on CTV News for their work as co-authors of the Bluebird in the Classroom book series. Their work grew from a shared decision to remove screens from their classroom and focus on reading, connection, and play-based learning. What they noticed was powerful: students became more engaged, more connected, and eager to learn through shared stories.
The Bluebird in the Classroom books were created to support young learners as they build routines, relationships, and listening skills at school. The stories use child-friendly language and real classroom situations to help students understand expectations in a way that feels familiar and supportive. The books focus on ideas such as being part of a class family, following daily routines, and learning how to listen and participate. While the books were first written for educators, families have also embraced them for use at home.

Crystal and Nathalie also share ideas with educators and parents through their online space, Kindergarten Unplugged, where they highlight screen-free learning, outdoor education, and practical classroom strategies. While they use tools such as AI to support the design of learning resources, their classroom remains tech-free, creating a balanced and intentional learning environment. Their work reflects the creativity, care, and dedication of CDSBEO educators, and we are proud to see their efforts recognized beyond our school communities.
