Celebrating Franco-Ontarian Day!

Today, on Franco-Ontarian Day, we celebrate the richness of the French language and culture within our schools and communities. We are grateful for the dedicated French as a Second Language (FSL) teachers who inspire students every day.

This year, we highlight Mme. Natalie Lavallee, CDSBEO FSL Teacher, who recently joined St. Mary Catholic High School after many years at St. John Bosco Catholic School. Working with both Core and Immersion French students in Grades 7 and 8, Mme. Lavallee brings her warmth, creativity, and excitement for the French language into the classroom.

When asked about what Franco-Ontarian Day means to her, Mme. Lavallee shared:

“Franco-Ontarian Day is important to me because it celebrates the richness of our French language and culture right here in Ontario. It reminds me, and hopefully my students, that French is not just a subject that we learn in school – it is a living, vibrant part of our community and identity. This day is a chance to honour the past, celebrate the present, and inspire the next generation to carry our language and traditions forward with pride.”

We thank Mme. Lavallee and all CDSBEO French teachers for the important role they play in helping students embrace the French language and culture.
