Empowering Leaders through Indigenous Education

On May 9th, members of the CDSBEO Indigenous Education Team presented to principals in the Supervisory Officer’s Qualification Program (SOQP) at the Limestone District School Board. Led by CDSBEO Superintendent Brent Bovaird, the presentation focused on accountability, helping candidates enhance their understanding of various data types to inform system decisions and improve student learning, mental health, and overall wellbeing.

The CDSBEO Indigenous Education Team’s presentation was highly impactful, providing essential insights for future superintendents. Key topics included the Ohénton Kariwatékwen (Haudenosaunee Thanksgiving Address), Personal Commitment to Truth and Reconciliation, Indigenous Education in Ontario, the Indigenous Education Council, and the mandated Indigenous Education Curriculum. Resources for teachers, the importance of Indigenous Community Partners, the Ministry of Education’s Indigenous Education Board Action Plan, and a detailed overview of the CDSBEO Indigenous Student Graduation Coach and Indigenous Student Success Mentor roles and Indigenous Brilliance Clubs were also highlighted.

Additionally, the presentation featured the Indigenous Peoples Atlas of Canada and the augmented reality tool, The Biinaagami Giant Floor Map. Overall, candidates were equipped with valuable knowledge and tools to become effective leaders in education.
