Local Government Week 2025

Local Government Week (October 19–25, 2025) is a time to recognize the essential work of local leaders who shape our communities and ensure the services we rely on every day. In Ontario, this week is dedicated to increasing public and youth awareness about the importance of local government, encouraging civic engagement, and celebrating the people who make our municipalities and school boards thrive.

In Catholic school boards across Ontario, Catholic School Trustees serve as elected representatives who help govern publicly funded Catholic school boards. They are called to lead with integrity, compassion, and vision to support student achievement. By balancing governance responsibilities with spiritual stewardship, Trustees help sustain a vibrant and mission-driven education system.

At CDSBEO, Trustees represent different regions and work together to:

  • Set long-term goals and monitor progress
  • Approve policies that support student achievement and well-being
  • Hire and evaluate the Director of Education
  • Approve the annual budget
  • Serve on committees like Audit, Governance, and the Special Education Advisory Committee

Trustees also act as bridges between schools and the community. Their leadership ensures our Catholic schools reflect the values and needs of everyone they serve.

During Local Government Week, let’s recognize the dedication of our Trustees and the important role they play in Catholic education!
