Mohawk Artist Katie Francis Inspires Creativity and Culture Across CDSBEO

The Catholic District School Board of Eastern Ontario is proud to recognize the work of Mohawk artist Katie Francis, whose murals continue to bring culture, history, and creativity into our schools.
Her latest mural at St. Joseph Catholic School in Gananoque reflects the local community and its Indigenous roots. The name “Gananoque” comes from an Indigenous language and is often shared as meaning “Town on two Rivers,” recognizing the St. Lawrence River and the Gananoque River.
Through her artwork, Katie helps students and staff connect with Indigenous culture and better understand the world around them. Her murals serve as both a visual learning tool and a reminder that all parts of creation are connected.
We thank Katie for sharing her knowledge and talent with our school communities. Nia:wen kowa for your continued contributions to Indigenous Education across CDSBEO.
