St. John CHS SHSM Students Explore Trauma Care at The Ottawa Hospital

On November 24th, students from St. John Catholic High School’s Specialist High Skills Major (SHSM) program visited The Ottawa Hospital to learn about trauma care and risk prevention. The visit was hosted through the P.A.R.T.Y. (Prevent Alcohol and Risk Related Trauma in Youth) program, an in-hospital injury prevention initiative for youth ages 15–18.

During the day, students heard from health-care professionals, including first responders and surgeons, who shared their experiences supporting patients after serious injuries. Students also explored the trauma care room in the emergency department, giving them a close look at how teams respond when every second counts.

The P.A.R.T.Y. program guides students through the typical course of injury and treatment after a car crash, helping them understand the real-life impact of risky choices. By learning directly from experts, students gain knowledge they can use to make safe and informed decisions.

Thank you to The Ottawa Hospital and the P.A.R.T.Y. program team for welcoming CDSBEO students and providing a meaningful educational experience.
