Student Leadership Initiatives at St. Thomas Aquinas CHS

At the April 21, 2026, Board Meeting, student leadership and engagement initiatives at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic High School were highlighted through a presentation by Principal Lucie Matte Hogue, alongside student leaders Deborah Arroway, Joe Delorme, and Bronwyn Bergeron, showcasing how these efforts strengthen connection and belonging within the school community.

Programs such as Link Crew, Web Crew, Unity Club, and Best Buddies were highlighted, along with how they align with CDSBEO’s Multi-Year Strategic Plan priorities To Belong, To Believe, To Nurture, and To Learn.

The presentation emphasized that belonging must be intentionally cultivated, particularly for students entering new environments or navigating social challenges. Through peer mentorship, inclusive spaces, and student-led initiatives, these programs help ensure students feel welcomed, supported, and valued. Special emphasis was placed on the Best Buddies program, which creates genuine friendships between students in the Multiple Exceptionalities Program (MEP) and the broader student body through shared activities and everyday interactions. Student leaders shared reflections on the meaningful impact of Best Buddies, noting increased confidence, empathy, leadership skills, and a strong sense of purpose for both participants and volunteers. The presentation highlighted that these initiatives create a safe and supportive school culture where students feel connected.
