Access to Devices for Distance Learning

CDSBEO continues to work with local public health to establish a protocol to safely distribute devices to families. Please contact your school Principal if you are in need of a device.

For Families Without Internet Access

Schools will continue to monitor and reach out to families that do not have access to the Internet to discuss options and how to continue moving student learning forward.

Special Education

Support for our identified learners is at the forefront of our considerations as we work to develop online learning possibilities for all students. Our Special Education team, consisting of clinical, educational and support staff, have been involved in determining plans for allocation of SEA equipment, individual student support plans and conversations with our families. Our Special Education Department will continue to collaborate with our school communities and families to determine the best learning experience for each individual student based on the realities of our current at home learning situation.

Elementary Students (Kindergarten to Grade 8)

CDSBEO Elementary Students all have access to Microsoft Teams. It is in Teams that students connect with their teacher and classmates, as well as view and submit assignments. Synchronous learning is based on the school day. Teachers are available to connect with students during their class times.

Once students have accessed www.mycdsbeo.com they will see a list of apps. All students in Kindergarten through Grade 8 can find their online virtual class in the Microsoft Teams App.

Should you wish to contact your child’s classroom teacher, please email them at  firstname.lastname@cdsbeo.on.ca.

Assessment and Evaluation – Elementary/Intermediate Students (K-8):

All students will receive a report card and final report card marks. Teachers will assign learning tasks and projects and will provide students with feedback on their learning. Results from the work done through in-person learning and/or distance learning will be used by teachers to inform the final mark. Please reference the Ontario Ministry of Education document Growing Success

Graduating Students

For CDSBEO students graduating this 2020-21 school year, please note the slight changes in requirements and expectations.

  1. Students are still required to achieve 30 credits.
  2. Community involvement hours must reach a total of at least 20 (as opposed to 40 hours in past years).
  3. The Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT) does not need to be successfully achieved for students to meet graduation requirements. This is expected to change for 2021-2022 graduating class.

Self-Identified Students

Any Self-Identified students, or their parents/guardians, who are in need of support should contact Indigenous Education Leads Marian Lawson MacDonald marian.lawsonmacdonald@cdsbeo.on.ca or Celine Langevin Celine.Langevin@cdsbeo.on.ca.  To self-identify, please contact your school or complete a form found at https://indigenoused.cdsbeo.on.ca/ and return to your child’s school.

Mental Health Resources and Supports

This continues to be a stressful time for everyone and it’s normal to feel worried. Students, parents, and staff may be feeling a range of emotions and be struggling with time away from school, work, community activities, and not being able to see their family and friends. Please visit our Mental Health Resources page for mental health supports, information and updates. We also have links to many additional resources posted to our COVID19 Information Page, including information for local mental health services provided during the COVID19 closures.
