Educating and Inspiring… heart, mind, body, and soul!

Catholic Education Week 2021

From May 2 to May 7, students and staff across the CDSBEO will celebrate Catholic Education Week virtually. The Board will be engaging in many activities and prayerful reflections to celebrate this year’s theme of “Nurturing Hope”. Hope is a gift God gives us so that no matter what challenge is ahead, God is there with us and within us.

Daily themes for the week include:

  • Monday, May 3 – Preparing the Earth
  • Tuesday, May 4 – Sowing the seeds of Gratitude
  • Wednesday, May 5 – Cultivating Relationships
  • Thursday, May 6 – Harvesting New Fruit
  • Friday, May 7 – Marvelling in Wonder

Special Highlights

Wednesday, May 5 – 6th Annual Indigenous Education Day

Students will have the opportunity to participate in a virtual online presentation, Skyworld: We Come from the Stars, presented by Wilfred Buck, one of the foremost Indigenous star-story experts in the world and a science facilitator at the Manitoba First Nations Education Centre (MFNEC). Wilfred Buck is tasked with developing science and astronomy curricula for schools; to create his lessons, he uses the knowledge shared with him by Elders and others, imparted during ceremonies and sweat lodges to teach students to look at the stars from a Cree perspective. The presentation is a culmination of learning around monthly themes which began in October.

Wednesday, May 5 – Province-wide Catholic Education Week Mass

On Wednesday, May 5, we invite all students, teachers, school staff and supporters of Catholic education to join Cardinal Thomas Collins for a special Mass to celebrate Catholic Education Week. Mass starts at 11 a.m. Eastern Time at http://stmichaelscathedral.com/live.
